  1/6/2005 - 2004 Record Year
  Busiest year ever at Gallatin Field in 2004
Gallatin Field marked its busiest year ever as 308,985 passengers boarded airline flights, up 9.9% over the previous record set in 2003. 2004 was the 10th consecutive year of increased boardings. Gallatin Field is the second busiest airport in Montana based on both passenger boardings and tower operations.

Passenger boardings by airline were; Northwest – 99,058, United Express – 60,646, Delta – 56,620, Delta Connection – 55,687, Horizon – 36,066, chartered airline flights – 908.

In order to accommodate the continued growth, the Gallatin Airport Authority completed construction on a 5,200 square foot airline terminal addition last summer, which included an additional airline gate, a 4th airline loading bridge and improved separation of inbound and outbound passengers. In addition, checked baggage screening was moved behind the ticket counters to improve the check-in process along with 8 additional self serve check-in devices by 3 of our 4 airline brands.

The Gallatin Airport Authority has also invested heavily to protect the airport’s future needs by purchasing over 190 acres of land adjacent to the airport or in approach paths. Also, the airport is participating in the development of a 2nd Belgrade Interchange.

General Aviation continues to be a strong component of Gallatin Field with over 230 privately owned aircraft based at the airport along with excellent fixed base operators, several flight schools and charter companies. In 2004 alone, 12 new privately owned general aviation hangars were constructed.

The Air Traffic Control Tower at Gallatin Field handled a record 66,616 aircraft operations during the year, up 1.8%. This marks the 2nd consecutive year in which Gallatin Field was the 2nd busiest towered airport in the state. In a joint project with the Federal Aviation Administration, the Gallatin Airport Authority invested $1,500,000 to provide better radar coverage in the Gallatin Valley by the end of 2006. This long awaited improvement will greatly enhance safety and efficiency at Gallatin Field.

Gallatin Field is served by five airlines with 17 daily departures to six hub cities. Over 400 people are employed by the 28 entities with offices at Gallatin Field.

Gallatin Field serves Bozeman, Big Sky, Southwest Montana and Yellowstone National Park.

  1/6/2006 - 2005 Record Year
  Banner year in 2005
Gallatin Field recorded its 11th consecutive year of increased boardings as 334,447 passengers boarded scheduled airline flights, up 8.6% over the previous record set in 2004. Passenger boardings by airline brand were:

* Delta/Delta Connection – 132,518
* Northwest/Northwest Jetlink – 104,403
* United Express – 61,081
* Horizon – 35,110
* Big Sky – 1,335
* Chartered airline flights – 1,232

While 2005 was a banner year, 2006 promises to be challenging. Airline bankruptcies and high fuel prices continue to plague the airline industry. Consequently, many airlines have reduced their capacity across the nation, including at Gallatin Field. We expect passenger boardings at Gallatin Field to decline slightly during the 1st quarter of 2006 and are cautiously optimistic that passenger traffic levels will be at or near 2005 levels for the remainder of 2006.

The Air Traffic Control Tower at Gallatin Field handled a record 71,556 aircraft operations during the year, up 7.4%, and marks the first time tower operations have surpassed the 70,000 threshold.

The Gallatin Airport Authority continues to plan for the future with several on-going projects. A new FedEx facility on Airport Road will open in February. The airport will also commission a safety enhancing radar system in early 2007. Additionally, the Gallatin Airport Authority continues to work with the City of Belgrade, Montana Department of Transportation and Gallatin County on the east Belgrade I-90 interchange which will provide the only non-railroad grade access through Belgrade, relieve traffic on old highway 10 and provide better access to the 2nd busiest airport in Montana.

Gallatin Field is served by five airline brands with daily non-stop service to Boise, Butte, Denver, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Salt Lake City and Seattle/Tacoma. During the ski season, Gallatin Field has Saturday non-stop service to Atlanta and, beginning on February 19th, Sunday non-stop service to Detroit.

Over 400 people are employed by the 28 entities with offices at Gallatin Field. Gallatin Field serves Bozeman, Big Sky, Southwest Montana and Yellowstone National Park.

  11/13/2006 - Chicago service to become year round
  United Express flight to Chicago to be year round.
Gallatin Field Airport (Bozeman, Montana) will receive year round daily nonstop service on United Express to Chicago (O’Hare), Illinois beginning February 14, 2007. Last summer’s seasonal service to Chicago was very popular with customers and its success was instrumental in United’s decision to make this service year round. This announcement culminates an effort by the Big Sky area to expand service to Chicago and will benefit all of Southwest Montana. Gallatin Field Airport will become the only airport in Montana with daily non-stop service to Chicago.

The proposed flight schedule between Bozeman and Chicago O’Hare will begin Feb. 14, 2007, and be operated by United Express partner SkyWest:

Route: Depart: Arrive:
Chicago O’Hare to Bozeman 10:00 a.m. 12:11 p.m.
Bozeman to Chicago O’Hare 12:45 p.m. 4:27 p.m.
Schedules are subject to change.

  1/23/2007 - 2006 Challenging Year
  Passenger Boarding down 5.3%
Airline bankruptcies and high fuel prices impacted passenger boardings at Gallatin Field in 2006. After recording eleven straight years of increased boardings, Gallatin Field ended 2006 with 317,850 passengers boarding flights, down 5.3% from 2005.

Passenger boardings by airline brand were:
Delta/Delta Connection - 101,837
Northwest/Northwest Jetlink - 97,807
United Express - 76,161
Horizon - 37,067
Big Sky - 4,204
Chartered airline flights - 954

While 2006 was a challenging year, 2007 passenger boardings are expected to show positive growth. Some early indications of this growth include additional seats on four of our five airline brands, seasonal non-stop service to Atlanta upgraded to 183-seat 757 aircraft and new year round daily non-stop service to Chicago beginning February 14th.

The Air Traffic Control Tower at Gallatin Field handled a record 82,937 aircraft operations during the year, up 15.9%, passing the 80,000 mark for the first time.

The Gallatin Airport Authority is currently working on its master plan to accommodate anticipated growth over the next twenty years.   Passenger Boardings Break Record
A record 334,505 passengers boarded scheduled airline flights at Gallatin Field in 2007, up 5.6% over 2006. New daily year round non-stop service to Chicago, seasonal weekend non-stop service to San Francisco and a third daily non-stop to Seattle/Tacoma all contributed to the record year. 2008 is also starting out positively with United Airlines upgrading one daily Denver flight to mainline 737 aircraft during the peak winter and summer travel periods.

The Air Traffic Control Tower at Gallatin Field handled the second highest number of operations ever at Gallatin Field with 80,606 aircraft operations during the year. Corporate jet operations continued to grow with an increase of just over 10% and accounted for approximately 7% of all Gallatin Field operations. Scheduled passenger and cargo airline service accounts for approximately 20% and general aviation accounts for 73% of Gallatin Field’s operations.

During 2007, the Federal Aviation Administration commissioned a new radar site on the field culminating a fifteen year effort by the Airport Authority to improve radar service here in the valley. The Gallatin Airport Authority contributed $1.5 million toward this project, the first such joint effort to take place in the nation. Additionally, another $4.2 million in infrastructure improvements were accomplished during 2007 including a terminal apron expansion that will serve the future terminal expansion. Seventeen new private hangars were constructed on airport property and a beautiful new general aviation pilot shelter was completed by local volunteers. Gallatin Field also hosted the well attended “Blue Angels in the Big Sky” airshow in July and was a set location for two major movie productions.
